Boredom
Many youngsters opt for dating because of nothing better to do. We read between the lines...

Going for a stroll, shopping, reading, dozing off or, for that matter, gossiping. The list of options is endless when it comes to killing time. But how about dating ? When you have endless hours at your disposal, have you ever thought of going on a date as an option? If yes, it is nothing unusual. A large number of youngsters opt for dating simply because they have nothing better to do. Boredom leads to incompatible relationships: that is what many realise after breaking up.

Kunal Shah, a final year BBA student, completely believes in this practise of dating someone out of boredom. He says, "There have been innumerable instances where my friends go around just because they have nothing better to do. They set a stipulated time for themselves, and plan as to when they will put an end to the relationship. It is completely practical these days. This way, they have time for both work and relationship. One thing at a time works best here."

Psychoanalyst Ashwani Bhakoo explains that all this starts because of too much time at hand. He says that youngsters have a tendency to explore these days. When they attend colleges that do not subject them to too much pressure, they tend to experiment with relationships randomly. "It actually starts over a cup of coffee. Further, peer pressure forces them to change their partners as soon as possible. This is because going steady in a relationship for more than a couple of months is totally uncool," he further adds.

Akanksha Dhawan, a working professional in her late 20s, realised this only after she had broken up with her boyfriend. She says, "We first met on a social networking site, and dated for about nine months. We were too emotionally attached to each other and had future plans too. All this sounds very silly to me now. The ground reality was that, since I was living in a city like Pune and had a rather uninteresting life, I took a plunge."

Boredom is one major reason why many youngsters enter into relationships. They realise their mistake sometime down the line, which is followed by break-ups. But then, there are many others like them out there. So, a youngster who breaks up does not have to worry about a second chance.
