As India brought the cricket World Cup home after 28 years, 19-year-old model India is the most excited, it seems.
Born and brought up in a London suburb, her name is India Woods, and she's come especially to the country to be a part of the upcoming WIFW, which kicks off on April 6.
No, this is not a post April Fools' hoax. In her own words, "India has been my name since birth. My father decided well ahead of my birth that if they had a daughter, they will name her India. My friends in London used to pull my leg for the same. But ever since India's won the World Cup, my pride for my name has increased manifold. I think I'm lucky for them, as I've flown to the country just recently."
Born to an Indian mother and an Irish father, she's a student of Media Studies, and has walked the runway for many fashion shows in London. She flew to Delhi just a few days ago, and approached the FDCI secretariat to know if she can participate in the upcoming fashion week. And the tall and pretty lass got a chance to be a part of the WOW (World of Wearable Art) show at WIFW. "The WOW show takes only young students every year, to give them a chance to be a part of WIFW. So, she got selected," says FDCI boss Sunil Sethi.
But on Day 1 of the fittings, when many designers saw India, they sounded interested in giving her a chance to walk the ramp for their shows. "When somebody gives you a chance, it feels great," says India, with a British accent and a smile, and I'll be more than happy to debut on Delhi ramp." Will she try her hands at Bollywood too? "If I get a chance, I'd love to. Many models from London have made it to Indian cinema. If Katrina can be there, why not me?" comes the reply! Seems like she's found her way on her own. We hope to find this new aspirant on the runway. Whoever says 'What's in a name', must watch out for her!
