Ritu Kumar: A leaf out of a time traveller's diary, designer Ritu Kumar's collection on Day 2 of Wills
Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter'11 was a journey to the world of indigenous legacy of handicraft. The fabrics were a palatte of traditional jacquards, woolen blends, silk lycra and jerseys with a whole deal of block prints, engineered wovens, loosely thrown yarns over bodices, creating a larger than life impression.
Indian rustic shades such as beige, black, indigo and burnt orange were splashed on to a modern canvas. The accessories were coordinated well with metal bangles, bags and neckpieces. As the show progressed from one timeframe to another, the finer aspects of weave and textile revealed themselves very beautifully.
Rajesh Pratap Singh: The designer gave an edgy approach to modern lines of construction and displayed with flair a wealth of silhouettes that revolved around being body hugging to structured anti-fits. Add to it the metallic tree-like installations that enhanced the overall look. We didn't miss out the innovative metallic ikat pattern he introduced to the range. Pleated surfaces and structural three-dimensional patterns were applied to perfection, particularly appliqués that varied from florals to linear geometry and broken lines patched with mastered techniques.
It was worth noting the way the designer used red and white colours in floral formats creating a palette that was a blend of uber-structural greys, blacks and whites.
In the second phase, the ensembles were a combination of more intense shades like navy blue, purple and electric blue splashed onto velvet. The ones in velvet clearly stood out for their hemlines that reached out to the ankles. Gold metallic chains and three-dimensional floral structures as necklines added a sense of drama to the line.
