With an exquisite lineup of short numbers, hot pants, tube tops and drape sarees, designer duo Shantanu
& Nikhil introduced their brand new line S&N Drape on Day 3 of the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week autumn/winter'11.

High on glamour, the collection sought to bring out the pop diva character in every girl by highlighting her curves and focusing on her spunky attitude. Talking about his inspiration, designer Shantanu says, "The brand draws inspiration from Indian vintage colours and culture. The clothes are not rigid or unyielding, instead cheerful and sexy, bringing real fashion through mainstream silhouettes and drapes."

The first phase of the collection had an assortment of halter tops with hot pants, sleeveless fur jackets, figure-hugging backless dresses in black and copper shades. Most of the outfits were stylishly paired with black stockings and silver gladiator sandals. Not exactly was the collection autumn-winter, but the designer duo succeeded in making a statement out of bold cuts and snappy silhouettes. The black halter top worn over a copper colour leather hot pants was saucy. The range of short numbers were finely interspersed with slit sarees that sometimes resembled a drape-skirt and at other times a drape-gown. Model Noyonika Chatterjee elegantly carried the orange silk jersey saree draped over a black halter blouse in the last leg of the show. So, what made Shantanu & Nikhil go for a traditional wear in this overtly 'modern' creation. Explains Shantanu, "Sarees are a favourite of every Indian woman. So, thought of giving it a modernist twist by slitting it just so she can wear it like a skirt."

To bring out the pop diva look, a lot of silk jersey, leather treatments, animal prints and sequins were used. The colours progressed from black and copper to beige, nude, burnt orange, sapphire blue and seaweed green as models sauntered down in backless tops, off-shoulder dresses, hot pants and the very refreshing sarees.

With silhouettes meant to glorify a woman's curves, Shantanu & Nikhil did leave their signature on this vivid yet light-hearted range.
