Come summer and most of us are fighting tooth and nail to fend off those usual problems with hair care. Most times, many of these problems can be solved with simple precautions and a proper hygiene routine. We ask Najeeb Ur Rehman, PPS Manager of Schwarzkopf Professional to give some tips to deal with bad hair during summer.
Sweaty scalps: Sticky and sweaty scalps come with the summers. If your job entails being outdoors in the sun or for those who work out everyday — sweaty scalps are unavoidable. Throw in the pollution and dust that accompanies the heat and your hair begins to wither away. Dandruff, oily or dry, is a cause for major concern. Using a dandruff control shampoo would help to a great extent. For people who hit the gym frequently, using a deep cleansing pre-shampoo peeling followed by deep cleansing shampoo is recommended. These are summer specific issues and need to be dealt with instantly to avoid long term problems.
During the summers, one must wash their hair either daily or a day apart. Ensure you clean out all the applied styling products. Rinse out thoroughly.
Dry and brittle hair: Dry and brittle hair is caused by excessive exposure to sunlight and leads to hair loss and breakage. Hair loses a lot of moisture in the summers and gets dehydrated just like the skin. Use shampoos that inject moisture into the hair, nourishing it. Electric blow-dryers, hot irons and curling tongs should be used only after shielding the hair with a heat damage protector. Remember, just like our skin our hair too requires adequate moisture and protection in the summers.
Decolorization of hair: Hair exposed to heat is prone to decolorization. If your hair has been color treated, then it is important to ensure that the color does not fade away due to exposure to harmful sun rays. Searing heat, high levels of humidity, chlorine in water and salty sea water are the root causes of decolorization.
Cover your hair with a hat or a scarf to protect it from the harsh rays of the sun. There are products to take care of color treated hair in the summers such as the color save shampoos and conditioners. These products have UV filters that protects and prevents hair from decolorization. A leave-in spray conditioner is recommended for curly or frizzy color- treated hair.
