Almost every woman likes to have colourful, smart looking nails that grab others attention or make a style statement. However, sporting nails with chipped nail polish is a serious fashion faux pas simply because they look hideous. And we know you can't afford the time and money to be going to the salon to get your nails treated professionally. So how do you get those perfect-looking polished nails? Here are some tips to prevent nail polish from chipping:

- The first important step is to keep your nails completely clean before applying nail polish. That's because the natural oils present on the fingers and nails, make the nail polish prone to chipping faster.

- It is a good idea to first apply a base coat to your nails. This is a trick that many know of but do not follow, which helps in making the nail polish last longer.

- In the quest for sporting attention-grab nails, many women commit the mistake of applying thick coats on their nails. It is better to apply three to four thin coats than two thick coats of polish. This will not only minimise the drying time but also avoid a thick layer of paint.

- While painting your nails, it is important that you paint the tips of your nails completely. This greatly helps to minimise the risk of getting the nail polish chipped.

- After applying every single coat of either base coat or the nail polish, it is crucial to give your nails sufficient drying time. Do not handle any objects in your hands until you give your nails about 45 minutes of drying time.
